Vaitape, Bora Bora

April 21, 2016

It certainly is a good thing that we did our snorkeling excursion yesterday.  I awoke this morning and couldn't see anything outside my window.  It was raining and the fog had settled in.  By the time I watched the news (non-stop coverage of the death of Prince), got my bag of laundry ready to send out, and got dressed, the fog had gone but the rain continued.

About ten the captain announced that we were changing the order of our next two stops - going to Papeete first and then Moorea.

I wandered up to the Lido and the Continental Breakfast was still available so I got a plate of fruit.

Debated on whether I wanted to go over to Vaitape or not.  I walked around the Promenade deck and quickly decided although it was still drizzling it was way too hot to wear my raincoat - I would rather get wet than pass out with the heat.

Back to my cabin to leave my raincoat, pick up money, cards, and ID and I was off to the tender.  When I got down to A deck I met up with four friends from the roll call.  They were going to take the $5 shuttle to Bloody Mary's and invited me along.

When we arrived the place was fairly empty.  We sat at the bar and had drinks.  As we were finishing our drinks four other roll call members arrived and we decided to have lunch.  I had a cheeseburger that was delicious.

After lunch we got another $5 shuttle back to the port.  We went the long way round and saw a little more of the island.  There was one cloudburst on the drive back but it stopped by the time we arrived at the port.

I looked at the local crafts (which seemed a little pricey) and only bought a magnet.  Caught the next tender back.  The timing was perfect.  Within a couple of minutes a downpour started that lasted at least an hour.

After loading my pictures and working on the blog for a time, I headed up to the Crow's Nest for trivia.  Ann came by and helped Susie and me.  We ended with 12 out of 18 but three teams tied with 13.

1.What disease is the BCG vaccine used for?
2.Which country was divided into eastern and western parts from the 40s to the 90s?
3.What type of fish is an alewife?
4.The country of Ghana was previously known as what?

I read for awhile and then got ready for dinner.  Evening trivia had six of us playing.  We had 14 out of 15 but those pesky artichokes had all 15.

1.What city was the setting for Gunsmoke?
2.What toy was originally known as the "Pluto Platter"?
3.What is the royal dog of China?
4.Who was the youngest person to be listed in Who's Who?
5.What automobile is named for the founder of Detroit?

It was "No Smoking" night in the Casino so I played and lost $5.  Then on to dinner with all seven present.  We enjoyed hearing about Karen and Alex's stay in an over water bungalow.  I had Viener Schnitzel and peach crisp.

No show for me tonight (it was the flautist, Bettine Clemen, and Greg Andrew who does the Elton John show).
