At Sea

April 4, 2016

Woke up a little before 9 to get ready for our first Sit and Stitch meeting at ten in the Crow's Nest.  We had about ten people show up.  I left a little after 11 to check out the outdoors.  There was another hula lesson and two children were snorkeling in the pool.  I have see three children on board but have heard there are a few others.  One little girl, about two, is on with her mother and father who is a chef on board.  The brother and sister in the pool were only told by their grandparents the day before that they were going on a cruise.

About 20 of our Cruise Critic members had lunch together in the Pinnacle Grill.  I had the crab appetizer, beef tenderloin, and strawberry Pavlova.  A few who were signed up forgot about it.  Because of lunch I missed afternoon trivia.

We left the Pinnacle Grill just before two to go to the casino for our slot pull.  Everybody put in $15 and we each got 5 pulls.  We did not do very well and only made $144 amongst the 14 of us.  The total was divided evenly amongst the players with the high scorer getting the extra.  Everyone got $10 back and the high scorer got $14.

Holland America seems to have gotten rid of the craft classes I liked so much last year.  There also is no culinary trivia.  I guess the hula and ukulele lessons are supposed to take their place.

Found a quiet spot to read my book and about 4:30 had my afternoon ice cream.

We had four players for trivia and, in a tie-breaker, we won!  (The tie-breaker was to guess the Show Hosts age).

1.  Which is the least used letter in the English language?
2.  What is the temperature that reads the same in both Celsius and Fahrenheit?
3.  What deck of cards has 78 cards?
4.  In what decade was the tomb of Tutankhamen discovered?

Tonight is the first "Gala Night".  A few months ago HAL replaced formal nights with Gala Nights with dressing up suggested but not required.  I was very pleased with how nice most people looked.  Many were dressed just as if it were a formal night.

The ship's Doctor and his wife joined us for dinner.  As usual with a hosted table he bought wine for us.  Once again we were one of the last tables to leave the dining room.  (One of the couples did the same Panama Canal repositioning I did last year!)

Went to my first show called, "All for Love", which featured the singers and dancers.  It was pretty good.

We turn the clocks back another hour tonight.

Trivia answers
1. Q
2. -40
3. Tarot
4. 1920s

Smooth sailing until next time!
