At Sea (not Rarotonga)

April 17, 2016

Woke up a little before 8 am and saw two tenders being tossed about in front of the ship.  A few minutes later the captain announced that our stop in  Rarotonga was cancelled due to the high seas.  He also said there was a medical disembark and the woman was going to be flown to Australia.  The captain continued to give us updates until the tenders were safely back on board.  We then did a scenic cruise around the island before heading to our next stop, Raiatea. We will arrive around 9pm tomorrow and overnight there.

The provisions people had donated for Fanning Island were off loaded here.

Only three present for Sit and Stitch.  The schedule was revised and we had trivia at 11.  Six of us played but we only had 17 1/2 out of 22.  The winners (not the artichokes) had 20 1/2.

1.How many years married would you be if you were celebrating your "tin" anniversary?
2.What does "BPM" stand for in music and medicine?
3.Where are you most likely to find a Newton's Cradle?
4.Which archduke' assassination sparked WWI?

Had an excellent egg salad sandwich (only had to pull off the spinach) and fruit for lunch.  Read for a while but was sleepy so I went back to my cabin for a snooze.  My snooze turned into two and a half hours.

Joined Susie for the Culinary Trivia on herbs and spices.  I knew exactly one answer.  Another team had fourteen out of fifteen.  The questions were lengthy so I didn't write any of them down.

At six there was a "History of Holland America Line" trivia.  Susie was at dinner so I played alone.   I had 17 out of 18 correct and won (made me feel good after my dismal showing at Culinary trivia)!  Unlike regular trivia this game had good prizes.  See my picture below.

Pub trivia at 7 in the Northern Lights (which has the most uncomfortable seating on the entire ship).  Four of us played with a total of 5 out of seventeen (our worst showing yet).  The winning teams tied at 9.  The artichokes lost in the tie-breaker.

1.What is the name of Popeye's island home?
2.What is the most commonly used golf club?
3.How many minutes is a tripping penalty in hockey?
4.What pasta's name translates to "little turnip" in English?

For dinner I had spaghetti, fruit and peach frozen yoghurt.  We got another glass of champagne for missing port today.

The show tonight was the "Elton John Experience" with Greg Andrew.  He was very good.

At 11pm (way past the bedtime of most on board) the Filipino Crew Show was held.  Last year both the crew shows were held in the afternoon which made them standing room only.  Not as packed at 11 pm.

I was too tired to work on the blog when the show was over which is why this entry is late.  To bed just before midnight.

A couple of views of Rarotonga from my window
