At Sea

April 5, 2016

One of my morning rituals has always been to watch the morning show on TV as I get ready for the day.  Unfortunately, this cruise they are taping the morning show live in front of an audience at 9 am and then showing it on TV from 10-1, which are times I am almost never in my cabin.

Up about 8:30 to see Location Guide Kainoa's talk on Hawaii "From Kingdom to State".  He is a great speaker and tells a good story including those about his own family.

At ten I spent an hour with the Sit and Stitch group in the Crow's Nest.  Then off to get a seat in the Lido with lunch at 11:30 and finishing up my book.

Back to the Crow's Nest for afternoon trivia.  We were one of the four teams tied with 15 out of 19 but lost in the tie-breaker.

1. What is unique about these capital letters?  H I N O S X Z
2.  Which has more vocal sounds - a cat or a dog?
3.  What are the only two words in the English language that end in -gry?
4.  What is 111,111,111 multiplied by 111,111,111?

After trivia I left my book in the Book Exchange in the library.  I always buy interesting paperbacks that the "Friends of the Library" at home sell for 50 cents and keep them to either to take on a cruise or read at the pool in the summer.  I brought nine with me so I now have one less to take home!

At 2:30 we had our Cruise Critic Bunco game.  We only had six play but we had a good time and I got to talk with three people I haven't had a chance to speak with before.

I took my afternoon ice cream out by the Sea View Pool and watched the sea awhile and then sat in the sun.  The weather was so nice I read for about 45 minutes.

Off to evening trivia after changing for dinner.  We only had 14 out of 23 with the winning teams tied at 17.

1.  In cards, what is called a "Dead Man's Hand"?
2.  How many Von Trapp children were in the Sound of Music?  1 point each to name them.
3.  In film making what is the job of the Foley artist?
4.  What four words did Johnny Cash say at the start of every show?

All seven of us were present for dinner.  I had my favorite creme brûlée for dessert.  Lost three dollars in the casino on the way back to my cabin.  The show tonight is Olympic gymnast, Lance Ringnald who I think I have seen on another cruise.  I passed because I wanted to finish up the blog and get to bed early (for me) and get up early (for me) tomorrow.

Afternoon trivia
1.  They are the same upside down
2.  A cat
3.  Angry and hungry
4.  12345678987654321

Evening trivia
1.  Aces and 8s
2.  7 - Gretl, Marta, Leisel, Kurt, Freidrich, Louisa, Brigitta
3.  Sound effects
4.  Hello, I'm Johnny Cash

Smooth sailing until next time!

I enjoy your around-the-ship posts. Daily life on a long cruise is always interesting and you make it more so because you include a lot of small tidbits. Great writing and the food photos are superb!
Hope your weather is perfect for your first ports!
