At Sea

April 6, 2016

The weather totally spoiled my morning plans.  I was going to the live Good Morning Westerdam show and then was going to swim and get some sun.  Alas, when I woke up it was totally cloudy and we were feeling a good amount of the "motion of the ocean".  OK, I can adapt - I rolled over and went back to sleep!

An hour later I rolled out of bed and went to Sit and Stitch.  Right before I arrived, one of the ladies had tripped and slammed into the wall.  She had some ice on the bump on her head when I got to the Crow's Nest.  Eventually she admitted she was feeling dizzy and one of the ladies helped her back to her cabin.

During Sit and Stitch the weather started improving but there was not enough time to swim as I had commitments at 1 and 2:30.

Lunch was not the best meal ever.  None of the hot choices really appealed so I tried one of the prepared sandwiches to go along with my fruit and caprese salads.  Last year when I was on Westerdam you could have sandwiches made to order.  This was great for me as I don't like too much stuff on my sandwiches.  But (probably in a cost cutting measure) HAL has mostly done away with this.

I tried the only one of the sandwiches that I liked most of the ingredients called something like "Super Deli".  I removed the pickles and salami.  The rest of it was not bad.

Then it was time for afternoon trivia. (And once again they scheduled afternoon trivia and Name That Tune at the same time.). We had four on our team.  The winning team had 15 out of 19 - we only had 10.

1. In a healthy human the stomach gets a new lining every ____ days.
2. True or false?  When traveling in a group, orca whales breathe in unison.
3. Are there more people or kangaroos in Australia?
4. Do you burn more calories sleeping or watching TV?

At 2:30 we had our "Wine Tasting for Dummies."  One of the members of our roll call is a sommelier.  He had a white and a red wine for us to taste and he told us a great deal about wines and wine making.  Since I know next to nothing about wine, I learned a lot.

Since I was across from the casino I decided to lose a few more dollars but ended up winning back three of the dollars previously lost although I am still in the hole.

Afternoon ice cream time and a sit to read my book.  It had to be inside today because the clouds have come back.

Evening trivia had four of us managing to get 12 out of 16 but the winners had all 16 correct (they are called the "Artichokes" and they win almost every night).

1. What barnyard animal can get a sunburn?
2. Who was the first "Public Enemy #1"?
3. What toy gets its name from the Danish "play well"?
4. How many seconds are on an Olympic basketball shot clock?

Afternoon trivia
1. 3
2. True
3. Kangaroos
4. Sleeping

Evening trivia
1.Pig
2.John Dillinger
3.Lego
4.30

Seven for dinner as always.  I had the HAL French onion soup, turkey and a really good kiwi Pavlova.

I went to see the show that featured Natalie Toro who is an actress and singer.  She had an amazing voice.

We set our clocks back another hour tonight (Hawaii does not have Daylight Saving Time) and arrive in Honolulu about 10 am.
